Albany-- The Albany blood bank is emptied out stocking South Georgia hospitals.

Gunnery Sgt. Joe Ehert was one of the few people donating blood this Memorial Day. The Marine says it is just coincidental that he scheduled Memorial Day as his day to give platelets.

Sgt. Ehert's reasons for donating are pretty simple, "Because it doesn't hurt me any. It doesn't hurt me any and it helps someone else. It takes maybe an hour or maybe two hours out of my day and it helps like four or five different people."

The Albany blood bank is completely out of O-negative blood supplies. O-positive blood is also needed. It could take as many as forty pints of blood to help just one person in need.
