Albany Mayor thinks regional airport good idea

May 27, 2004

Albany -- The Albany mayor says he thinks Southwest Georgia would be better off with one regional airport, not small ones in each city.

Mayor Willie Adams says short term, Albany's airport must try to increase cargo traffic to increase their revenues. But long term, Adams says he thinks one large regional airport near Moultrie, to serve all Southwest Georgia cities, is a better answer.

Mayor Adams said "Sometimes you have to give up something in order to gain. I think we have to find a central place where Tifton, Albany, Valdosta, we can all have one nice airport."

Mayor Adams said the city has applied for federal grants that could bring a second passenger carrier to the Albany airport, which would help lower ticket prices.
