Colquitt County- Hundreds of brand new jobs are coming to South Georgia. The nation's sixth largest supplier of chicken will begin construction on a $96-million facility this summer in Colquitt and Cook Counties.

Sanderson Farms will build a poultry processing plant and a wastewater treatment facility near Moultrie, and a hatchery and feed mill near Adel. Production is expected to begin in 2005 creating more than 1,700 jobs.

Moultrie Mayor Bill McIntosh said he was "impressed with its cleanliness."

Sanderson officials said the particular type of soil in this area was crucial in the selection of such a large, expensive facility.The Colquitt-Cook poultry plant will be able to process 1.2 million birds each week.
