Turner County- Turner County Sheriff Randy Kendrick says 26 year old Daniel Ray Austin, and 31 year old Jeffrey Scott Palmer of Jacksonville came across the state line in a stolen Geo Tracker.

They asked 50 year old truck driver Dennis Richardson for a ride as he was parked off of exit 80 on I-75. After he refused, the two beat Richardson in the head with the hammer.

"They're not talking very much right now but we believe the motive was to rob him. They had stolen the vehicle they were in, and we feel like their motive was robbery to get money to go on up the road," says Kendrick.

Both men are charged with aggravated assault, transporting stolen property across state lines, and burglary. They are being held in the Turner County jail.

Richardson was transported to Tift Regional hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
