(Decatur, AL)At the 2004 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park in Decatur, Alabama, top seed Thomas University ( Ga. ) (50-3) advances to the semifinal game after defeating rival No. 4 seed University of Mobile (Ala.) (48-12) 2-0 in the winner’s bracket game.
Thomas is a perfect 7-0 versus Mobile this season. Thomas University, in their second consecutive appearance in the NAIA Championship, scored one in the first inning and one run in the seventh inning to capture the victory over the Rams of Mobile.
Second baseman Yuruby Alicart (0-for-3) scored on a sacrifice fly by Victoria Masters (2-for-2) after reaching on a base on balls.
In the seventh inning of the game, Masters singled to left and advanced to second base on a fielder’s choice.
Center fielder Stacey Ward singled to shallow left center field to score Masters.
Junior Cathy Andrijaszyn pitched a seven inning complete game to improve her record to 25-1 on the season.
Andrijaszyn struck out eight Ram batters, walked only one and allowed only three hits in the contest.
Mobile ’s Linden Jones dropped her record to 9-3 on the season while allowing two earned runs with six strikeouts.
The Rams offensively scattered four hits among four players in the game.
Advancing to the semifinal game, Thomas will face either Simon Fraser University on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
