Valdosta - A South Georgia police officer was hit by a car while on duty.

Valdosta Police Officer Joseph Gosseck was crossing East Mary Street around 11:30 Friday night when he was hit by a car. The driver, 24-year-old Myia Smarwt, didn't stop. She was pulled over a few blocks away and arrested for hit and run.

"We have witnesses who saw the officer raise his hand to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle continued on," said Sgt. Steve Owens.

Officer Gosseck was treated for minor injuries.
