South Georgia College gets millions for new building

May 18, 2004

Albany- It's been a seven year wait for Darton College, but the school is finally getting the money for a new administration building.

More than $4.8 million for the new building is included in the budget Governor Sonny Perdue signed Monday. The current administration building was designed to house 16 employees to support 1200 students. Tuesday, it houses 50 employees with student body of almost 4 thousand.

"It was included in the bond package, and the general budget would only support the interest payments that would be due once this project was funded," said Darton President Peter Sireno.

Construction will begin in the fall.
