Americus-- A South Georgia emergency team is recruited for the G-8 Summit next month.

The Americus Fire Department received word Monday that their assistance is needed at the meeting of world leaders in Sea Island.

The department has undergone extensive emergency management training. Chief Steve Marino says, "We are the southern team for our area Hazards Council--which is Area Four for the GEMA Region--and we are the southern team for Haz-Mat and medical response for a wide level. I think a lot of that has to do with us coming over."

The Chief and seven firefighters will be in Glynn County in June.

Chief Marino says the toughest part is picking who will go, as the assignment is considered a once in a lifetime experience.
