Americus-- Sumter County's historical airport is being improved again.
Souther Field is the site of Charles Lindbergh's first solo flight.
Recently, the airport's runway was expanded to 6,000 feet. Now, a more than $300,000 dollar federal grant is paying for a new fence.
The airport also plans to build two additional hangers, but that project is not expected to begin this year.
