HOPE changes to effect tech students

May 17, 2004

Albany- The new bill signed by Governor Sonny Perdue Monday limits the number of quarter hours technical students can take to 95.

Administrators at Albany Tech aren't sure how many of their students will be affected, but they expect many will have to depend on other forms of financial aid.

"The second congressional district in our 8 counties is one of the poorest congressional districts in the united states, so it's likely that a largest percentage of our students who are enrolled in Pell eligible programs will be pell eligible because of income," says President Dr. Anthony Parker.

The 95 hour limit will also include credit hours taken this year, though the new ruling doesn't take effect until July first.
