Language barrier may slow down murder case

May 13, 2004

Brooks County--Language may be a barrier to solving a weekend murder in Brooks County.

|Saturday, investigators arrested four Mexicans in connection with the beating death of Jorge Torres. The suspects are migrant workers who lived with Torres in this home on Hodges Road.

Police say the language barrier is slowing them down in getting all the facts in the case.

So far they've had to use an interpreter to communicate with the men. As the Hispanic population grows, there is a greater need for more Spanish-speaking officers.
