Albany -- May 13th each year police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty are honored. Flowers were placed on a wreath during the Albany-Dougherty County Police Memorial Service Thursday afternoon.

Dozens of law enforcement and family members took time to honor the five officers from the Albany Police Department and Dougherty County Sheriff's Office who have died in service.

Nellie Kimbro placed a flower for her son, Patrolman Randy Brown, who was shot answering a disturbance call June 10, 1979. Kimbro said "He died doing what he loved to do. He enjoyed his job. It just seems like yesterday this took place. It won't ever be any other way."

WALB News Ten's Karla Heath-Sands sang "America"in honor of all fallen Dougherty County police officers. The service is part of National Law Enforcement Memorial week.
