Man charged with rape, incest back in South Georgia

May 13, 2004

Dawson-- A Dawson man accused of raping a little girl last weekend is returned to Terrell County.

34-year-old Daran Lewis was in hand and leg cuffs when he arrived at the Sheriff's Office Thursday afternoon.

Lewis was picked up by Leon County, Florida authorities Monday on multiple charges, including rape and sodomy.

Investigators say Lewis kidnapped a 11-year-old girl from her bedroom early Saturday morning, then raped her in nearby woods and then again in her bed.

Sheriff John Bowens says Lewis will be moved to another jail for security, but he's not received any threats, "Well, we hadn't had any and I hope we don't but I would rather be safe than sorry."

Bond was set at $15,000 dollars on three of the charges. A Superior Court judge will set bond on the remaining three charges.
