Valdosta- The 4th ranked Valdosta State men's tennis team has some company on the bus to the Division II national sports festival in Orlando this week.
Last week, the Valdosta State men beat Ouachita Baptist to win their regional and advance to nationals for a fifth straight year.
While on Saturday, the Blazer women upset Ouachita Baptista in Arkadelphia, Arkansas 5-4 to advance to their first naitonal tournament appearance in several years.
John Hansen, who coaches both VSU tennis teams, says the fact that both the men's and women's teams have qualified for nationals has given both squads some much needed confidence for the biggest matches of the season.
Hansen said "Our players are pretty optimistic right now and we have had some up and down times this season. This seems to the highlight right now because if you cannot get up now, you are just not going to get up and they seem to be rising to the occasion."
Both Valdosta State tennis teams plays BYU-Hawaii in the first round on Wednesday.
The Blazers beat BYU-Hawaii in the regular season but the Lady Blazers lost 9-0 to the BYU women who are unbeaten, ranked number one and have lost just four individual matches this year.
