Albany -- The men and women who protect our safety took an extra step for the community Saturday.

Saturday morning, Albany and Dougherty County law and fire officials threw a party for the public at Tift Park.

Kids and adults were invited to play games, eat, and meet the people that protect us.

"We are showing the community that we care about them and we appreciate what they do for us. Just to show love basically and give back to the community," says Sgt. Edward Heath of APD.

"To let the citizens and the kids know that we are here for them at all times and let them know that we're their friends and we are there to help them," says Sam Harris of the Albany Fire Department.

Next week, officers hope to draw an even bigger crowd with an outdoor Jazz concert in Albany planned as apart of National Law Enforcement Week.

The concert will be Tuesday morning at 11:30 on the steps of the Government center downtown.
