Search for 10 month old is called off

May 6, 2004

Lowndes County - The search for a 10 month old baby missing from Jacksonville has been called off.

About 100 volunteers searched for little Jay-Quan Mosely for 4 days, but found no sign of his body. Investigators think he was murdered and left in some trash that was taken to the Onyx Landfill in Lowndes County.

They covered a little over an acre of trash stacked eight to 10 feet tall, and sorted through about 1,000 tons of garbage.

"You want to try to give the family some type of closure and without us finding anything, we feel like we haven't done our job," said Doug Haskell.

Jay-Quan's mother was found dead near Gainesville last Friday. His father, John Mosely Junior, has been named a person of interest in the case and is in jail in Jacksonville for having sex with a minor.
