Half dozen qualify for sheriff

Fitzgerald- Sheriff Thurman Ellis is retiring after nearly 16 years of service, and since he made his announcement to step down, campaign signs have sprung up.

Six people have officially qualified for the job. They are Ben Hill Deputies Donald Bennett and Jimmy Nolan, Fitzgerald Police Sergeant Michael Gaulden, Bobby McLemore, retired State Trooper Bobby Clark and former investigator with the South Central Drug Task Force Lee Cone.
