Albany - Albany city commissioners honor two Albany men who rescued five children from a burning apartment. Tuesday, they gave Samuel Cochran and Troy Hairston a plaque for their heroism.

The two painters were working at New Jerusalem Apartment Complex on March 30, 2004. They heard children screaming inside a burning apartment, broke through the door, and pulled out the kids.

"They're kids were so scared. They were so happy to get out that they just ran," Samuel Cochran.

"I really didn't think about the danger, until I got in there and couldn't even breathe," said Troy Hairston.

Investigators say the children started the fire while playing with matches.
