Thomas County - It happened around 5:30 Sunday afternoon. 34-year-old Wendy Hamner of Ashburn was traveling north on US 19 in southern Thomas County when the 2003 Yukon she was driving veered off the road.
Hamner overcorrected, and the SUV tipped onto its side. The vehicle flipped several times, finally coming to rest against this fence.
Hamner's 9-year-old son, Christian Kimbell, died on the scene. Hamner was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
Another passenger, 5-year-old Hampton Hamner, was ejected, but was not seriously injured. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Hamner has been charged with failure to maintain lane and child without a seatbelt. She is an elementary school teacher in Turner County where Christian Kimbell attended school.
