Two teams share lead at GSGA 4-ball

April 23, 2004

ALBANY, Ga. - Former Georgia Amateur champion Bill Roberts of Pine Mountain, along with
partner Johnny Hammond of Columbus, are tied for the lead with Doug Stiles of Athens and
Garrick Stiles of Watkinsville after the first round of the Georgia Four-Ball Championship, being
held at Doublegate Country Club.

The two teams shot a nine-under 63.  The duo of Jayce Stepp of  Cartersville and Marietta's Scott Davenport, runners-up in the 2003 Four-Ball Championship, sit one stroke back in second.

Reigning Atlanta Amateur champion Scott Pitts of Cornelia and partner Brian Davidson of
Baldwin, along with past champion Rocky Costa of Alpharetta and partner Brett Lange of Atlanta,
are among five groups tied for fourth at seven-under 65.

The others are Jay Pyne and Adam Grodhaus of Duluth, Marty Ellison and Curtis McLendon of Rome, Steve Simmons and Edwin Wolfe of Warner Robins.

Defending champions Wright Waddell and Carter Mize of Columbus are four strokes back of the
leaders in a tie for 14th place after shooting a 67.

The field will be cut to the low 40 and ties after Saturday's second round.
