Adel-- Adel is of course the home of the Cook High Hornets who have won state championships in several sports.
The last state championship for Cook High came four years ago when the Hornets won the AA state baseball title. They beat Eastside High of Covington two games to none to win the school's second state title. The first was in 1992.
Of course Cook High is also very good in football year in and year out with two consecutive trips to the Georgia Dome in 2000 and 2001. The Hornets one and only state title came in 1949.
The most famous player to come out of Cook High has to be Ken Tippins, who played five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons.
Cook High also one of the top wrestling programs in south Georgia and they won a state title in 1988, and as well back to back state titles in girls basketball from 1950 to 1951.
