Adel--  One landmark in downtown Adel is now home to the Cook County Chamber of Commerce. The old building opened in 1931, and was home to the Southwest Georgia Melon Growers Association.

That group started in 1920 as the only cooperative for marketing watermelons in the world.

Within ten years, the group had 3500 members from 40-counties. And if you look in between the big windows on the building,  you'll see small green watermelon shaped decorations.
