(Athens-AP) -- Vince Dooley will receive the 2004 John L. Toner Award given by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
The award is given annually to an athletic director who has demonstrated superior administrative abilities and dedication to college athletics, especailly football.
Dooley, the University of Georgia's popular former football coach and its athletic director since 1979, will retire in June.
The 71-year-old Dooley was turned down last summer when he asked University of Georgia president Michael Adams for an extension past his current contract.
He will receive the award in New York in December.
