Victims' Rights golf tournament raises funds

April 19, 2004

Dougherty County  -- Police officers' jobs usually involve helping crime victims. Monday many Southwest Georgia law enforcement officers teed up a golf ball to help them.

The Sixth annual Victim's Rights Week Golf Tournament was played at the Radium Country Club. 88 golfers, the largest field in the history of the tourney, took part.

The money raised helps pay for victims' right week ceremonies. Victim Services Director Sybill Collins said "we have the tree planting tomorrow, the wreath proclamation on Wednesday, and the candlelight vigil on Thursday. We are asking people to give blood all week at the American Red Cross. This is how we pay for the whole week."

The Victim's Rights Golf tournament raised over five thousand dollars.
