Albany-- Volunteers picked up nearly 70 tons of trash around Dougherty County during last weekend's 14th annual Stash the Trash Campaign.

Volunteers filled hundreds of garbage bags with trash littering 90 miles of roadways. 68 tons of garbage was collected during the two day clean-up.

"We had a record 2,853 people come out to volunteer, and that certainly makes a positive statement about our citizens," said Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful Director Judy Bowles.

The event was a part of the Great American Clean-up, the largest community improvement program in the nation.
