Albany - Just two days to the dreaded tax deadline. H&R Block, in Albany, has some advice for last minute filers who need some professional help. Call to get an appointment to avoid long waits. Bring your W-2 form, the Social Security cards of all your dependents, paperwork of any property or stock sales, and receipts of any school tuition or other education expenses.
If you need to file for an extension, you must do so by April 15th. Automatic four months extensions are available by telephone at 1-888-796-1074. But remember, the money is still due this week.
"That just gives you time to extend the filing," said H&R Block Office Manager Jean Wilson. "If you expect to have a tax liability you have to make a good faith payment and send some of the money by April 15th, with the extension saying the rest of the money and the return will follow later."
The IRS is expecting to receive nine million extension request.
