Albany-- An elementary school student proves he knows the meaning of citizenship.

Emerson Daniels is a 5th grader at Alice Coachman Elementary.

Friday, he was given the Young Citizenship award by the Exchange Club.

Emerson is an A and B student, helps out whenever he is asked and is respectful to adults.

Emerson's Teacher, Clifton Alexander, says "His attitude is so positive. He has overcome so many adversities in life. He lost his mother awhile back and he really has stepped up and I'm sure he is making her proud."

Emerson's father, grandmother and siblings were there to applaud his award. Emerson says he plans to keep being a good citizen.
