Thomas U. softball now at number one

April 7, 2004

Thomasville-The Thomas University softball team has finally made it to the top of the NAIA national poll.

The Lady Night Hawks, who have ranked second for the past few weeks, received six first place votes in this week's poll and are ranked number one in the latest NAIA rankings.

Thomas University earned 342 voting points this week compared to 337 for the previously top ranked Simon Fraser University.

It is the first time any athletic team at Thomas University has been ranked number one in the nation.

The Lady Night Hawks are 35-2 on the season and have outscored their opponents by 306-41.

Head coach Thomas Macera said "Obviously this is a great accomplishment for our softball program.  This is where we want to be but our main goal is still to bring home the national championship and to be number one at the end of the season."

The top ranked Lady Night Hawks next game is at home Thursday at 2:00 p.m. against Judson College.
