Bishop commends Valdosta

April 5, 2004

Valdosta - Congressman Sanford Bishop was in town Monday to commend the city for its housing improvements.

Valdosta was recently named an Entitlement Community by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This means the city will receive more than $700,000 each year to assist with housing and community development projects for low to moderate income residents.

Bishop says the new designation will improve the lives of everyone living in Valdosta. "It means money for schools, libraries, health, transportation, and it means money for services," said Bishop.

The city will receive $718,000 in July to assist with housing activities.
