Albany-- Albany's Marine base got a big show of support from the community Wednesday.

The Southwest Georgia Regional Development Center donated $25,000 toward the Alliance for Progress's effort to keep the Marine base off of the defense department's base closure list.

The Center says our economy can't afford to lose the base's $217 million  annual payroll. "It's probably the biggest payroll in the area and it means a lot to save it," says Jack Powell of the SW Regional Development Center.

Albany's base has a tremendous impact all across Southwest Georgia employing people from more than 20-counties.
