Dickerson cashes in

March 21, 2004

Dougherty County--Playing in just his second NGA Hooters Tour event, Bubba Dickerson carded a 7 under 65 Sunday to win the Michelob Ultra Classic at Stonebridge Country Club by three shots over Todd Bailey. Dickerson finished the 72 hole tourney 24 under par and picked up a check worth $22,000.

Dickerson, the 2001 U.S. Amateur Champion and former standout at the University of Florida, entered Sunday's final round one stroke behind Bailey at 17 under par. But after both he and Bailey birdied the par 5 13th, Dickerson caught fire and birdied the 15th, 16th and 17th holes to gain a three stroke lead on Bailey.

Despite wind gusts that reached 30 miles per hour at times, Dickerson seemed unphased by the weather and even had two putts for eagle during Sunday's final round.

Sylvester native Sonny Skinner posted the best score by a local player. Skinner carded a 2 under 70 Sunday to wrap up sole possession of seventh place.

Albany's Josh Broadaway and Chris Dixon were the next closest local players. Broadaway and Dixon tied for 29th at 7 under for the tourney.
