Dooly's Clark recommended at Americus

March 17, 2004

Americus- Dooly County head football coach Bill Clark is just one school board vote away from becoming the new head football coach at Americus High.

WALB News 10 Sports has learned that Clark will be recommended for the job at tomorrow night's Sumter County board of education meeting.

Hired as an assistant coach at Dooly County in 1995, Bill Clark was promoted to head coach in 1999.

In five seasons, Bill Clark has posted a 45-20 record and taken the Bobcats to the CassA playoffs in 1999, 2002 and 2003 and the Class AA state playoffs in 2000 and 2001.

Dooly County was state runner up in Class-A in 2002 and made it to the Class A state quarterfinals in 1999 and 2003.

Bainbridge High assistant Brent Miller and Rowland Cummings, head coach at Bradford High in Starke, Florida are the other two finalists for the Americus High head coaching job.

If approved by the Sumter County board of education tomorrow night, Bill Clark will be the first head football coach for the newly merged Americus and Sumter County High Schools.

The position became vacant when Erik Soliday accepted the head coaching job at Turner County last month.
