Thomas Softball now ranked 2nd in nation

March 16, 2004

(Thomasville) The Thomas University softball team (22-2) moved up three spots in the latest NAIA National Top 25 poll to number two in the country.

The ranking is the highest ever for any Thomas University sports team. The softball team soared as high as No. 4 in 2003.

The Lady Night Hawks received three first place votes and trail No. 1 ranked Simon Fraser University by only 16 voting points.

“It is a great accomplishment for our university and softball program,” stated head coach Thomas Macera. “It is important for us to be ranked high, but we still have a lot of softball to be played and much bigger goals ahead of us,” added Macera.

The Thomas University athletic program has stormed on to the scene as a national power in recent years.

In addition to the softball program, both the women’s and men’s soccer teams achieved nationally rankings this year.

Thomas is back in action Wednesday when the Lady Night Hawks travel to Albany, Georgia to take on Albany State at 2:00 p.m.

The team will be back at home at Amory Field March 20 vs. Missouri Valley. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
