Councilman trial date not set

March 16, 2004

Dawson-- A City Councilman is awaiting trial on charges he pistol-whipped a teenager.

Joseph Breedlove is still serving on the city council. He has even been appointed Mayor Pro Tem.

A handcuffed Breedlove made his first appearance before a judge in January.

He is charged with aggravated assault, cruelty to children and possession of marijuana.

Investigators say he beat 16-year-old Michael Jones in what the victim thinks was a case of mistaken identity.

A trial date is not set.

According to the City Clerk, the Mayor Pro Tem position is appointed by rotation.

Breedlove will serve three months in the seat starting April.
