Dougherty County -- The Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy inspected the armor building process at the Albany Marine Base.

Roger Smith toured the Maintenance Center in Albany, and inspected the armor kits being made for use in Iraq.

He praised the Base's quick response when the call was made for vehicle protection. "We've seen pictures this morning from theatre, of doors and kits that have been applied. It's been a great effort. And a great Navy-Marine Corps team effort that they have supported."

More than one million pounds of armor plate has already rolled off the lines at the Albany Marine Base bound for the middle east.
