Some middle school students who normally help their peers have reached out to a different breed.

Lee County Middle School's Peer Helpers normally mentor new students or help them with their homework.

But, lately the Peer Helpers have been serving their furry friends by collecting food donations for dogs and cats at the Albany Humane Society.

Peer Helper Jennifer Jones says, "If you think about it pets are basically like humans. They need food too, and you basically want to help everyone. That is what we are suppose to do is help everyone.

They collected dozens of bags of dog food and canned cat food. Their next project: Planting spring flowers at the school.
