Lee County - An Albany attorney is charged with driving under the influence after causing a wreck that sent him and another driver to the hospital Saturday night.

The wreck happened around 6:30PM at the intersection of Century Road and U.S. 19 in Lee County. 41 year-old Craig Mathis turned his motorcycle onto U.S. 19 in front of an oncoming Toyota Camry. The car's driver, 21 year-old Tomeika George, could not stop and slammed into the motorcycle.

Craig was thrown from his bike and taken to the hospital with several broken bones. He underwent surgery Saturday night. George suffered only minor injuries.

Mathis, a former political candidate who ran for State House of Representative and Sumter County District Attorney, is charged with DUI and failure to yield while turning left.

He refused to take a blood alcohol test, but a breathe test showed is alcohol level was 0.15 - nearly twice the legal limit.
