Lady Greenwave fall just short

March 6, 2004

(Macon-AP) -- Nikki Luckhurst hit a three-pointer with a-minute-and-30 seconds left to give the Wesleyan School the lead for good and sealed the Lady Wolves' win with two free throws, giving Wesleyan a 47-46 victory over Terrell County in the Class Double-A state championship today in Macon.

Luckhurst scored 17 points as Wesleyan won its second title in three years. The Norcross private school won the Class A crown in 2002. The Lady Wolves and Lady Greenwave were never separated by a margin greater than seven points, and the fourth period featured six lead changes.

Terrell County had a chance to tie with 22 seconds to go, but Tanae Davis' three-pointer was wide. A tied ball with eight seconds gave Terrell one final chance, but they could only manage a basket from the lane by Antwanette Spencer at the buzzer.

Sarah Moye and Carolyn Whitney scored eight points each for Wesleyan. Davis scored ten and Shankel Allen ten for Terrell County.
