Quitman- Friday a Brooks County jury returned a guilty verdict in the retrial of Freddie Lee Davis.

Police say Davis beat his sister, Bernice Thomas, and her boyfriend, James Newsome, to death in their home on June 14, 2000. Prosecutors say his motive was lottery money Newsome had won earlier in the week.

The case first went to trial last summer. A mistrial was declared when after jurors deliberated for 14 hours but were unable to reach a decision.
