Patriots fall in semis again

March 5, 2004

(Macon-AP) -- Defending state champion East Hall scored its final nine points from the free-throw line, beating Westover 68-62 in AAA state semifinal tonight.

East Hall (30-2) will face the winner of a Banneker and West Laurens matchup in the championship game, scheduled for tomorrow night.

The Vikings won the AA championship in 2001 and the AAA title last year.

Sophomore Frank Davis led a trio of East Hall players in double figures with 15 points, hitting three 3-pointers in the first half and hitting 4-90 free throws in the final minute and a half, allowing the Vikings to expand what was a one-point lead.

Allen Jenkins scored 23 for Westover (27-2), which last led with seven minutes to play.

But the Patriots hit just one field goal in the final 3:30, and that was a meaningless jumper at the buzzer.
