Tupelo, Ms- Senior Ernest Scott scored 11 straight points at the end of the first half and finished with 18 in the Blazers 61-50 win over Christian Brothers in the first round of the Gulf South Conference.
The Blazers were down 21-13 with five minutes to play in the first half when Scott hit three straight three point baskets to give Valdosta State a one point lead.
Scott finished the half with a two-point jumper that gave the Blazers a 24-21 halftime lead.
The senior from Marietta hit five three-point baskets in the game and finished junior Tony Baker scored 17 points for the Blazers.
The game stayed close in the second half before Valdosta State pulled away in the final two minutes by sinking 7-8 free throws.
Valdosta State is 26-2 on the season and will Montevallo in the semifinals at 1:30pm on Saturday.
