Tucker wins second straight SIAC MVP award

March 2, 2004

Albany- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball tournament starts  Wendesay morning at  the Albany Civic Center.

And on the eve of the tournament, all teams gathered at Albany State's HPER Gymnasium to honor players and coaches for their work on the court and in the classroom.

And for the second straight year, Albany State guard Flem Tucker is the SIAC's player of the year.

Tucker was once again at the top of the SIAC in scoring with a 23.4 points and seven rebounds a game.

The senior from Louisville is honored to earn the rare honor of two consecutive player of the year awards but what Tucker is really thinking about is wining the SIAC tournament title in Albany.

Tucker said "It is really nice because we have an advantage. We are home and I refuse to lose at home because if I lose my college career is over with so we are going with a win."

Flem Tucker and Nick Wallery were also first team all-SIAC selections as was Lady Rams guard Pamela Butler.

Brandon Rouhlac was a first team all SIAC academic selection and Travon McGruder made the second team along with Lady Rams Courtney Chapman and Shannon Grant.

The Albany State women will play at 5:00pm Wednesday against Benedict while the men play Thursday night at 8:00pm against Miles College.
