Lee County-- Voters will decide in November whether they want to allow Sunday alcohol sales.

The move will only effect four restaurants in the county that already serve alcohol. But, those that are eligible say it will help sales.

El Maya Mexican Restaurant on Highway 19 cannot serve alcohol on Sundays.

But, their sister restaurant in Albany can and sales there have doubled since the law went into effect.

The Manager at the El Maya in Lee County says they lose business each Sunday because they can't serve alcohol. Joann Colon says, "Yes, that happens every Sunday here, they leave. There are like five or six tables that come and sit down and after they don't get alcohol they leave."

Albany enacted their Sunday Alcohol Sales ordinance in November 2002. Lee County Commissioners approved the referendum in a three to one vote.
