Albany- The Albany State Rams are hosting the 2004 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Beginning Tuesday 19 teams will head to Albany to compete in the three day tournament.

The Chamber of Commerce is expecting more than 3000 fans to have a $1.5 million impact on the city's economy. The city has also planned a schedule of events for the influx of visitors. [

"The downtown merchants have rearranged their Mardi Gras schedule and they've shifted it from the Mardi Gras to this upcoming weekend. So, Saturday from 12 to 12 we'll have all kinds of excitement right here in downtown Albany," says Chamber president Tim Martin.

In addition to the series of games being played at the civic center and this weekend's Mardi Gras celebration, there will be a golf tournament, dance and step show, cheerleading competition and college recruitment fair.
