Albany -- Dougherty County is preparing a community tribute to honor the fallen U.S. Soldiers killed in Iraq. For the Arbor Day celebration, The Trees of Courage will be planted in the soldier's honor this month .

600 trees will be planted in the median of Westover Road in the six mile stretch from Old Dawson to Old Pretoria Road. The white flags you see there mark the spots for oak, magnolia, crepe myrtle, pine, and cypress trees. Hundreds of volunteers will plant the trees March 20th in a community wide project.

Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful Executive Director Judy Bowles said "Years later when we drive down here we will remember those soldiers, and also be able to enjoy the visual enhancement that we've added to our community."

The Trees of Courage project is expected to cost around 100-thousand dollars, and donations are welcomed by Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.

A number of Churches and organizations plan to volunteer to plant the trees March 20th.
