A History of Albany Police being put together

February 27, 2004

Albany -- The Albany Police Department was founded in 1891, and now a display of the history of the department is being put together.

Retired officers and personnel are going through old pictures and equipment. They will be displayed in the new Police on Ogelthorpe Boulevard.

Frances Anderson, who worked for A.P.D. for 35 years, says it fun to look back at the Police history. "I think people will enjoy going in there and seeing it. A lot of people don't know what really went on for all those years. It's going to be a lot of pictures to show what really happened."

Dianne Oliver wore one of these hats in 1976. Rudolph Bryant, who was the Albany Police Department's first black detective in 1971, is also helping put the history together.

They are asking anyone who might have something to add to the Albany Police Museum to contact them.
