Boat ramp construction held up by rainy weather

February 25, 2004

Albany -- The Flint River's busiest boat landing in Dougherty County is scheduled to re-open Monday, but the wet weather is delaying construction.

The Radium Springs Landing boat ramp, better known as "Dubber Beach", has been closed for about two weeks. The parking lot is being paved to make it better for area boaters and fishermen.

But continued rains have kept the work from being completed. Albany Engineering Project Manager Wes Smith said "Dubber is the most popular in the county. It's been closed for several weeks. We should have this ready within the next week or two, Mother Nature cooperating. Just in time for the spring fishing season."

The boat landing improvements are being paid for by a federal fish and wildlife grant.

Construction has to be finished in the next three weeks, or that grant money could be lost.
