Albany -- Lee County High School's STAR student credits music for her academic success. Katie Sechrist had the highest SAT score in her class, 1,370. She chose band director Ted Phillips as her STAR Teacher.

She says Phillips and the band helped her set high goals. Sechrist said "It's very important and I know it can help people a lot in the future. I think it's very important for everybody to be well educated."

Phillips said "Anybody that has that love for the music and an easy going nature, is just a perfect role model, for anyone to look up to her. Which they do."

Sechrist plans to study geology at the University of Georgia.
