February 23, 2004

Albany-- Improvements to the Civic Center and the Albany airport are some of the projects city leaders hope lobbyists can convince national lawmakers to support.

Here's are the other projects Albany commissioners are sending to the newly hired Washington-based Ferguson Group.

  • 911 Communications
  • Signal system upgrades
  • Levee environmental study
  • Parks at Chehaw
  • Multi-modal transportation center

The Ferguson Group will now ask lawmakers to set aside money for the projects.

"Our department heads identified hundreds of projects that they felt needed to be funded," said City Manager Janice Allen Jackson. "These are the ones that will going through the appropriations and authorization process. But, there are also other ways to get funds, and the Ferguson Group will be working behind the scenes on those as well."

Monday, Commissioners narrowed the list to seven projects, at a total price tag of more than $10 million. City and county leaders are flying to Washington, DC tomorrow to meet with lobbyists and lawmakers.
