Crane falls into river

February 19, 2004

Willacoochee- A bridge deck collapsed Thursday afternoon, and the crane it supported dropped into the river.

Two employees of Southern Concrete of Albany were treated for injuries-- one of them may have a broken leg.

A new bridge had been built, and the crew was dismantling the old span, built in 1943. A section collapsed, dropping the crane in the Alapaha River.

The accident happened about 3:00 PM on Highway 135, south of the town of Willacoochee.
